A couple weeks ago I had a craving for cornbread, so I decided to do something about. I had always wondered what went into it, and I knew it was an easy thing to make, so, as I live in a city with literally zero grocery stores, when I could finally convince my friend with a car to take me to Maryland for a grocery store, I picked up a can of corn meal and bought the ingredients listed on the back to make their signature basic cornbread
recipe. (But I don't double it...) Cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and egg and milk. I made it, and it was mediocre. The good thing about the given recipe is that it is so basic, adding stuff to it would be no problem. First, I tried again, but added an extra 1/4 cup of honey. Seemed like an obvious enough addition, especially since the first time I didn't think it was sweet enough. I was still bored with just the addition of honey, so next when I made it, I also added a 1/4 cup of corn nibblets (plus the honey). It was a good addition. I made that a couple times until I really liked it, then today I decided to add some chocolate chips I had sitting around, left over from when I made brownies for my friends in visiting from Pennsylvania. The chocolate chip-honey-corn cornbread is pretty good, and I'm considering what to put in next....
